Travel Guide To The United Kingdom

Air travel has risen in the U.K with low cost airlines, it has reached the price range of everybody, so people now travel all over the world, rather than just holidaying in the U.K. Now there are airports all over the country, you don’t have to travel far to find one. You can park your car securely at the airport, and pick it up when you return, it averages about $45 a week, depending on the airport charges.

Rail travel has vastly improved over the years, more so since privatisation. You can get from London to Edinburgh in about four hours, whereas before it used to be twelve, as you slept on the train. You can now book your seat in advance, and the G.N.E.R. (Great North Eastern Railway), now has Internet access in its first class carriages, along with free tea and coffee. A lot of work has been done on the lines to make them safer, following a spate of accidents due to poor maintenance. There is also the London Underground, with its warren of 13 lines; it’s very confusing when you look at a diagram of it.

Road travel has also improved, a lot of the motorways are now four lanes instead of two, there are now more motorway service stations, where you can stop and get a meal and drink, as well as fuel, and public conveniences. The fact there are many more cars on the roads than in previous years, still causes major travel upheaval, with traffic jams in all directions, especially at weekends in the summer, when you have people going out for the day, and Bank Holidays, if the weather is nice. Also roadwork’s used to be a major contributor to traffic jams, especially during the holiday season, they now tend to stop roadworks for Bank Holidays and in the summer, mainly doing repair work through the night. Whereas before you could spend hours even days getting across the country, most distant places are now reachable within 5-6 hours.

Coach travel is also becoming popular in the U.K. especially for weekends away, maybe to London to see a show, or The Eden Project in Cornwall, it’s reasonably priced and includes accommodation, entrance fees and return travel, which is less hassle than taking the car and trying to find somewhere to park.

Introduction To New Forest – England Travel Guide

The New Forest is an area of southern England which includes the largest remaining tracts of unenclosed pasture land, heathland and forest in the

heavily-populated south east of England. The New Forest, one of England’s most ancient and beautiful places, in addition to being a protected National

Park, has many wonderful attractions and places to visit.

For starters, look into a visit to Lyndhurst, in the heart of the New Forest. In addition to being the place where the main tourist center is located, there

are also many places to stay, eat and visit. Most tourists actually use Lyndhurst as their base from which to explore the rest of the park. Visit the

New Forest Museum, where you can learn all about the history of the area. If you would like to see a traditional game of cricket, then visit Swan

Green. Or perhaps you are a literary fan? Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s burial place lies in the nearby town of Minstead. Some of the better places to eat

include Imperial China, The Traditional Tea House, and Mad Hatter Tea Rooms. As for hotels, some suggestions would be: Lyndhurst Park Hotel,

Bell Inn Hotel and Knightwood Lodge.

There are also a number of things to do on day trips from the New Forest. These include visiting Southampton, which is a great place to shop, visit

museums, enjoy the architecture. Other day trip possibilities include Winchester and the Marwell Zoo, which is set in the open countryside with

leopards, tigers, hippos and more.

Ringwood and Burley are incredibly charming little towns in the New Forest. There are lots of tea rooms and souvenir shops. Burley also has a

distinctive witch theme, thanks to the fact that in the 1950′s Sybil Leek (a prominent witch) lived here. You can also take a horse-drawn wagon ride

here. On the border of Ringwood visit the Blashford Lakes, home of a large number of wildfowl. Accommodation is not as widespread as it is in other

cities, but you should still check out the Wayside Inn, Karelia, and the Burley Inn.

If you are a beach lover, you cannot miss the Lymington area. In fact, it is said that the area between Lymington and Poole has the best beaches in all

of England. And Lymington itself is English charm personified. The town is filled with lovely Georgian homes and has an excellent museum and

visitor’s center where you can learn about the history of the region. Don’t forget to see Fisherman’s Quay, the Lymington and Keyhaven Nature

Reserves and Braxton Gardens. There are also tons of hotel and B & B choices here: Efford Cottage, Durlston House and Solent Heights, just to

name a few. There are so many other attractions to look forward to in the New Forest.
