England vacations are perhaps the most popular, as London is one of the world’s major travel destinations. England vacations can be part of a larger tour of the United Kingdom or can fully suffice as a trip on their own. Touring English castles, stopping at a major theme park such as Alton Towers, or simply exploring the expansive palaces and parks in England are all popular ways to enjoy UK tourist attractions. England vacations give tourists the option of enjoying a high tea at an ancient Roman Bathhouse, or touring some of the world’s oldest inhabited castles and palaces such as Windsor Castle or Buckingham Palace.

Travel outside of England can be equally fascinating. The totally unique area of Wales is inhabited by some of the most interesting people in the world; many of who speak English as a second language. The character of this area of the United Kingdom will provide a singular travel experience. Travel to the north, in Scotland, is also distinctly different then travel in England or elsewhere in the United Kingdom. Traditions and culture harkens back to many centuries ago.

Wherever you plan to spend your time, UK tourist attractions are among the most famous and iconic in the world. Shopping and dining out can also provide a unique glimpse into a way of life that is like no other in the world. Many travelers come to London most specifically for the excellent shopping. As one of the major fashion capitals of the world, London is on par with Paris and New York for satisfying and cutting-edge shopping markets. Local shopping in villages can also be a great way to obtain traditional pieces and one-of-a-kind homemade items.

Restaurants in the United Kingdom abound, and food throughout the various countries within the UK will change according to custom. Large cities such as London, Edinburgh, and Glasgow, are known for their hip cuisine as well as traditional favorites. Pubs are another mainstay of UK residents no matter where you go, and you’ll usually find excellent local fare there.

1.London

A trip to the UK will never be complete if you don’t explore the city of London first. There, you can see the world-famous Big Ben, a huge clock that stood the test of time, and you can also find the Westminster Palace, the Westminster Abbey, and St.Paul’s Cathedral – all are great sights to behold. Of course, let’s not forget about all of London’s restaurants, parks, and shopping centers, and truly, London isn’t a city that you should bypass.

2. Stonehenge

Few structures in the earth are as mysterious as the Stonehenge. Built over 5000 years ago, this massive conglomeration of huge stones made to fit together like altars still pose a mystery to all those who see it. Up until now, there’s nobody who knows how the Stonehenge was built or what it was for.

3. Bath

Bath, as its name implies, is known for its many hot springs. You will see here several baths, which are perfect spots to get some much needed rest and relaxation. Here, you can get your share of steam and water in the famous Roman Baths, or better yet, the great baths themselves.

4. Scottish Highlands

There’s no better way to commune with nature than to spend a few days in the Scottish highlands, and there, you can go hiking through the long winding paths or go kayaking through the raging rivers. It has varied flora and fauna that’s the stuff of the great epics about the knights of old. You can even visit some of the big fortresses of the old Scottish warlords, and indeed, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into a romance novel. Also, you can go to the Eilean Donan Castle, where parts of the movie, Highlander, were filmed.

5. Canterbury

People who want to go to Canterbury are probably going there for the beautiful and historic Cathedrals and churches. There, you can find the famous Canterbury Cathedral, hailed by many to be the grandest Cathedral in the whole of England. Here, you can also find the oldest church in England, the Church of St. Martin.

6. Oxford

The picturesque town of Oxford is the home of the esteemed Oxford University, one of the most esteemed universities in the whole world. Also, from the city of Oxford, you can go to the Costwolds, a beautiful sample of the gentle hills of England’s countryside. You can even see quaint brick houses littering the place, and for added effect, you can go horseback-riding through these parts.

7. York

If you’re one for visiting old towns that make you feel like you’ve traveled back in time, then the town of York is the place for you. It’s complete with a huge Cathedral, picturesque houses, and a big wall surrounding the city. It’s one of the most well-preserved cities in the whole of United Kingdom.

8.Wales

The United Kingdom is a place filled with fantasy and romanticism, so if you’re into these kinds of things, you surely can’t miss Wales since it’s the Castle Country. In Wales, you’ll find a variety of castles of different sizes and types. There’s Beaumaris Castle, Caernarfon Castle, and many others, and they have towers, parapets, draw-bridges, everything that you can find in your old fairytales. It’ll surely be a magical experience.

In England’s seaside burg of Lancashire, overlooking the Irish Sea lies the gorgeous city of Blackpool. This place has long been one of the most popular tourist locations in not only England but in all of Europe. It is still the United Kingdom’s most popular coastal destination and the city still depends on tourism as the backbone of its economy. A trip to Blackpool will quickly remind you of that, upon bearing witness to the fantastically fun diversions scattered around the quaint burg.

While many of the yearly visitors to Blackpool come from surrounding areas like Glasgow, Blackpool still is a major draw to a worldwide audience. There are more hotels in Blackpool than in the entire country of Portugal and the astonishing Pleasure Beach is a must-see for anybody who loves massive roller coasters and similar theme park attractions. The “Pepsi Max Big One”, for instance, is one of the world’s largest wooden coasters and has one of the highest freefalls in all of Europe. Pleasure Beach used to be free but, sadly, recent lean years have forced the town of Blackpool to start charging admission to the historically important attraction.

Like many seaside towns with an economy steeped in fun, Blackpool has a sizable and strong gay population. Ever since the first gay pride parade in 2006, Blackpool has been considered North England’s gay capital but Blackpool’s friendliness to gays dates back to the 1940s when gay clubs and bars began popping up around the city proper. Blackpool’s apparent tolerance of others is admirable, although an interesting tidbit surrounding Blackpool’s tenuous relationship to Rock music is well-known to fans of the Rolling Stones. In 1964, when performing in Blackpool, the Rolling Stones angered the crowd by simulating sexual acts. A riot broke out as a result and the Stones were banned from ever performing in Blackpool again. In 2008, the ban was lifted but this story is evidence that Blackpool does seem to draw the line somewhere!

Blackpool, while still being a huge tourist draw, is slightly less popular than it was in its heyday. Millions still visit Blackpool every year but the total amount of tourists is millions less each year than the year before. The city has recently attempted to reinvent itself as a casino town in the same vein as Atlantic City or Reno but the British Government has thus far denied these attempts. Since being forced to charge admission to the historic Pleasure Beach, the city seems to be in a perpetual landslide toward irrelevance. Citizens of Blackpool scoff at this assumption, though, and cite that the city has always had periods of waxing and waning. Besides, one can hardly fear for the future of the city when it is still the most visited coastal town in all of England!

Air travel has risen in the U.K with low cost airlines, it has reached the price range of everybody, so people now travel all over the world, rather than just holidaying in the U.K. Now there are airports all over the country, you don’t have to travel far to find one. You can park your car securely at the airport, and pick it up when you return, it averages about $45 a week, depending on the airport charges.

Rail travel has vastly improved over the years, more so since privatisation. You can get from London to Edinburgh in about four hours, whereas before it used to be twelve, as you slept on the train. You can now book your seat in advance, and the G.N.E.R. (Great North Eastern Railway), now has Internet access in its first class carriages, along with free tea and coffee. A lot of work has been done on the lines to make them safer, following a spate of accidents due to poor maintenance. There is also the London Underground, with its warren of 13 lines; it’s very confusing when you look at a diagram of it.

Road travel has also improved, a lot of the motorways are now four lanes instead of two, there are now more motorway service stations, where you can stop and get a meal and drink, as well as fuel, and public conveniences. The fact there are many more cars on the roads than in previous years, still causes major travel upheaval, with traffic jams in all directions, especially at weekends in the summer, when you have people going out for the day, and Bank Holidays, if the weather is nice. Also roadwork’s used to be a major contributor to traffic jams, especially during the holiday season, they now tend to stop roadworks for Bank Holidays and in the summer, mainly doing repair work through the night. Whereas before you could spend hours even days getting across the country, most distant places are now reachable within 5-6 hours.

Coach travel is also becoming popular in the U.K. especially for weekends away, maybe to London to see a show, or The Eden Project in Cornwall, it’s reasonably priced and includes accommodation, entrance fees and return travel, which is less hassle than taking the car and trying to find somewhere to park.

The New Forest is an area of southern England which includes the largest remaining tracts of unenclosed pasture land, heathland and forest in the

heavily-populated south east of England. The New Forest, one of England’s most ancient and beautiful places, in addition to being a protected National

Park, has many wonderful attractions and places to visit.

For starters, look into a visit to Lyndhurst, in the heart of the New Forest. In addition to being the place where the main tourist center is located, there

are also many places to stay, eat and visit. Most tourists actually use Lyndhurst as their base from which to explore the rest of the park. Visit the

New Forest Museum, where you can learn all about the history of the area. If you would like to see a traditional game of cricket, then visit Swan

Green. Or perhaps you are a literary fan? Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s burial place lies in the nearby town of Minstead. Some of the better places to eat

include Imperial China, The Traditional Tea House, and Mad Hatter Tea Rooms. As for hotels, some suggestions would be: Lyndhurst Park Hotel,

Bell Inn Hotel and Knightwood Lodge.

There are also a number of things to do on day trips from the New Forest. These include visiting Southampton, which is a great place to shop, visit

museums, enjoy the architecture. Other day trip possibilities include Winchester and the Marwell Zoo, which is set in the open countryside with

leopards, tigers, hippos and more.

Ringwood and Burley are incredibly charming little towns in the New Forest. There are lots of tea rooms and souvenir shops. Burley also has a

distinctive witch theme, thanks to the fact that in the 1950′s Sybil Leek (a prominent witch) lived here. You can also take a horse-drawn wagon ride

here. On the border of Ringwood visit the Blashford Lakes, home of a large number of wildfowl. Accommodation is not as widespread as it is in other

cities, but you should still check out the Wayside Inn, Karelia, and the Burley Inn.

If you are a beach lover, you cannot miss the Lymington area. In fact, it is said that the area between Lymington and Poole has the best beaches in all

of England. And Lymington itself is English charm personified. The town is filled with lovely Georgian homes and has an excellent museum and

visitor’s center where you can learn about the history of the region. Don’t forget to see Fisherman’s Quay, the Lymington and Keyhaven Nature

Reserves and Braxton Gardens. There are also tons of hotel and B & B choices here: Efford Cottage, Durlston House and Solent Heights, just to

name a few. There are so many other attractions to look forward to in the New Forest.

Everything in life seems to be a trade-off. When trying to design a little ecologically smart beach hotel in Tulum, it gets challenging fast. Firstly there is no electricity provided along the Tulum beach. So we needed to generate and store enough power to supply our cabanas and guests, as well as the restaurant and bar.

We wanted our guests to have 24 hr electricity so they could have fans and lights and their laptops whenever they wanted. And of course we wanted refrigeration in the restaurant and bar to keep everything fresh and healthy. So we invested heaps of money in a 6kw wind turbine, with back up generator and a huge bank of batteries to store all the power we make.
